Dental crowns are often used to provide restoration for teeth that are decayed, cracked or broken. In some cases, a dental filling is not sufficient to maintain tooth integrity and strength. The dental crown can be used to strengthen the existing tooth and to preserve the foundational structure of the tooth. Dental crowns are custom made and fitted to each patient in our dental labs. The crown is permanently cemented onto the remaining tooth structure which has been prepared by our dentists. Dental crowns effectively restore normal function to the tooth, including the acts of eating and speaking naturally.
Cosmetically, dental crowns are color matched to the surrounding teeth and customized to improve your smile. Crowns are typically made from either Porcelain or metal, depending upon each individual case.
Porcelain fixed bridges or Dental Bridges are sometimes used to replace missing teeth, using the surrounding teeth as a foundation. The surrounding teeth are used to anchor the bridge which supports the Porcelain replacement tooth. A porcelain bridge will restore your original appearance, while being cosmetically perfected to often improve your smile.
Porcelain veneers, sometimes referred to as “overlays”, can be used to restore the natural functional and cosmetic properties of teeth. Porcelain veneers also provide additional strength and durability in comparison to natural tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers are often utilized in cosmetic restorative dentistry to enhance the shape, size and color of your existing teeth, thus creating a perfect smile.
Dental Implants, in many cases, represent the best alternative to replacing teeth. The Dental Implant replaces the foundational root of the tooth which resides within the jawbone. The dental implant, which includes a “post” for mounting a permanent porcelain tooth, has multiple advantages in that it preserves the adjacent bone structure which supports the surrounding teeth while providing a permanent foundation for a cosmetically perfected tooth replacement. Dental implants are often preferred for the preservation of optimum long term dental health and while providing a cosmetic approach to tooth replacement that is second to none.
In some cases, damage to a tooth or advanced decay may lead to may lead to infection which can invade the pulp of the tooth. The infection will often damage the bone structure that surrounds the tooth and is usually accompanied by swelling and pain. To remove the infection, an Endodontic procedure called a root canal is done to remove the infected pulp that resides within the root of the tooth. The doctor will then clean, shape and seal the tooth structure, which is often done in preparation for a subsequent post and crown procedure. Antibiotics are typically prescribed to eliminate the infection.
Tooth Colored dental fillings are used to fill and seal a tooth after the dentist has removed tooth decay. Dental fillings are often color-matched composite resin materials which preserve and enhance cosmetic results. Dental fillings preserve the natural existing structure of the tooth and prevent against further loss of tooth structure due to decay.
