DENTAL VENEERS KATY TX

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are the stuff Hollywood careers are made of! You may point to practically any actor or actress, singer or dancer – in short, just about any celebrity who earns a living in the public eye – and find a beautiful set of dental veneers adorning his or her smile.

Dental veneers used to be the type of glamorous appliance only the rich could afford, but today anyone can afford the red carpet smile of their dreams!

WHAT ARE DENTAL VENEERS?

Dental veneers are ultra-thin shells, usually constructed of finest tooth-colored porcelain, that cover natural teeth to hide dental flaws. They are also commonly referred to as porcelain veneers or (not so commonly) dental laminates.

Sometimes, dental veneers are made of resin composite material. Most dental patients prefer porcelain, however, because of its superior stain-resistant qualities and its ability to mimic the light reflection of natural teeth.

Dental veneers fall under cosmetic dentistry procedures because they improve the appearance of your teeth rather than their functionality or health.

WHO NEEDS DENTAL VENEERS?

If your teeth are healthy overall but you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your natural teeth, talk to your dental veneers dentist in Katy, TX.

Dental veneers can disguise a number of visual dental flaws, including

  • Gaps: veneers covering your natural teeth will close the gap and make it invisible
  • Misalignment: veneers can change the shape of your teeth
  • Uneven teeth: veneers can act as a mild extension of your natural teeth, giving them all an even length
  • Misshaped teeth: veneers cover any grooves or bulges
  • Discoloration: you can choose the color of your veneers to make them brighter
  • Worn, chipped, or broken teeth: dental veneers hide imperfections

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR DENTAL VENEERS?

You will likely need three appointments to receive your dental veneers.

1st Visit: Consultation

During this visit, you and your dentist will cover a lot of ground. You’ll undergo a thorough exam and may receive x-rays to ensure your natural teeth and gums are healthy, free of cavities and other problems that may need to be addressed beforehand. You’ll discuss the results you hope to achieve and how many of your natural teeth you want covered by veneers (anywhere from a single tooth to an arch).

2nd Visit: Preparation

Your dental veneers dentist will file down a very small layer of tooth enamel to make room for your veneers. This prepares the surface of the tooth to ensure optimal bonding and to avoid the “bulky” look that often results from trendy but cheap-looking clip-on veneers. The thickness of enamel removed is about equal to the thickness of your veneers – typically around half a millimeter. This procedure can be done with just a local anesthetic.

Next, the dentist will take an impression of your teeth and send the mold to the lab for the production of your custom dental veneers. This process may take a few days to a couple of weeks.

3rd Visit: Bonding

When your veneers are ready, you will return for a third office visit for placement. The dentist will cement the veneers into place, and trim them as needed to ensure a perfect fit. Finally, you walk out with a beautiful, even, white smile!
