The History of Sled Hockey:
A direct derivative of Ice Hockey, Sled Hockey was founded in the early 1960’s by a group of Swedes who, despite their physical impairment, sought to continue playing the game of hockey. A metal frame sled was modified with two skate blades which allowed the puck to pass underneath the sled and the sport was born. By 1969, Sweden had a five-team league.
Since its debut at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, Paralympic sled hockey has evolved to become one of the largest attractions for spectators. It is fast-paced, highly physical and played by male and female athletes.
